The UWHC Nursing Assistant Associate (NA ASSOC) position is t! he basic level of work in the UWHC Nursing Assistant series. It is the entry level designed to prepare the NA ASSOC to care for patients in a specified area. The person in this position practices and performs basic nursing procedures which were taught during their outside training and certification program. They perform these basic procedures for patients in stable condition. The NA ASSOC is expected to practice medical asepsis, respect the dignity and privacy of every patient, and maintain objectivity during patient care. The person is taught and expected to adhere to basic hospital safety policies and procedures, and to respond appropriately during emergency situations. The person is expected to maintain the patient's environment, perform general nursing unit upkeep, and maintain unit equipment and supplies under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The person is expected to use accurate verbal and written communication and document patient care on the appropriate forms! .

The NA ASSOC works under the close supervision of t! he Registered Nurse when caring for stable patients, but may work directly with the RN to assist in the care of acutely ill patients. The NA ASSOC receives specific work assignments which are both written and oral. The NA ASSOC is expected to complete the work assignment within the scheduled time.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma.
2. Must have recent experience working as a nursing assistant if incumbent has not recently completed certification.
3. Must be listed, or eligible to be listed, on the Wisconsin Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aid Registry.
4. Possesses knowledge of the principles of growth and development for the appropriate age group(s).
5. Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status in relation to the appropriate age group(s).
6. Demonstrates the ability to interpret relevant information needed to identify each patient's nursing care requirements relative to his/her age specific needs.
7! . Demonstrates the ability to provide nursing care relative to the patient's age specific needs.
8. Knowledge of and ability to read and document information in patient chart.
9. Knowledge of and ability to perform basic nursing assistant skills and practices.
10. Knowledge of Universal Precaution techniques and ability to incorporate Universal Precautions techniques while providing patient care.
11. Knowledge of safety measures used during provision of patient care.
12. Knowledge of and ability to practice aseptic technique.
13. Knowledge of patient rights and confidentiality requirements.
14. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, visitors and co-workers.
15. Knowledge of current theory and practice of nursing applicable to basic care provided by nursing assistants in non-complex situations.
16. Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to ! 25 pounds.

Multiple Posting Levels

This position is b! eing posted at multiple levels. Selection would be based on seniority as follows: the candidate with the highest seniority across all levels will be selected unless the candidate at the higher level has special skills and abilities required for the position.

Pay

This is a Represented position and falls into Pay Grade F. The salary range begins at $13.29 per hour. Education, experience, tenure and internal equity may be taken into consideration when job offers are extended.

Work Schedule

90%, Evening/Night, 8/12 hour shifts, B weekend rotation.
