Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant, Patient Care Services, assists in providing patient care. Must be flexible to work on an as needed basis. May be required to travel to sites where needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
Graduation from an approved school of Medical Assisting.
Demonstrates flexibility to meet department needs on short notice.
Adapts easily to the workflow of the different departments
Availab! le to work a flexible schedule on short notice.
Abili! ty to work at least one shift in a 90 day period or as designated per department
Ability to travel to other sites as needed.

Ability to safely lift up to 20 pounds and to push/pull up to 100 pounds when working with equipment, pu! shing wheelchairs or assisting with patient handling tasks.
Ability to bend/twist and crouch when performing various job tasks.
Ability to work with and to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when working with bloodborne pathogens or other chemicals.
Depending on Specialty and Dept Additional Essential Physical Functions May Include:
Depending on location assigned, may need to be able to safely drive a person vehicle on a weekly or daily basis.
Ability to wear a respirator/mask.
Responsibilities:
Identifies self as a Medical Assistant in all professional encounters.
Accurately collects and records vital signs and other pertinent patient information.
Assists medical providers and nurses in the examination and treatment of patients; assists with patient flow in department.
Demonstrates and understand sterile and aseptic techniques. Uses appropriate techniques in setting up o! r assisting with procedure.
Completes Laboratory and Medical I! maging requisitions, assists in the scheduling of procedures.
Assists medical provider with processing of diagnostic results.
Transports patients to other departments and acts as courier for specimens, x-rays, and/or medical records.
Administers medications by all routes excluding intravenous infusion. Demonstrates and understands administration techniques, recognizes and reports effects and side effects of medication, and instructs patient appropriately.
Collects and records accurate telephone information and relays it to medical provider or nurse in a timely manner.
Documents appropriate information in patientâs medical record.
Respects and maintains confidentiality of all information.
Cleans, prepares, and autoclaves equipment and instruments in preparation for sterilizations per infection control policies and procedures.
Provides patient education only under the direction of medical provider or nu! rse.
Conforms to all DeanMedicalCenter policies and procedures.
Performs additional medical responsibilities assigned by provider, who supervises and assumes legal responsibility for these actions.
Attends in-services and continuing education programs. Attends and participates in department staff meetings.
Demonstrates knowledge of role in emergency situations.
Performs other duties as required.
