The Ambulatory Care area provides outp! atient services for more than 20,000 patients/year at the Tomah VA Medical Center. On a limited basis, primary care services are provided at the community based outpatient clinics in Loyal and La Crosse. Services provided include urgent care, primary care, neurology, dermatology, employee health, comp. and pension exams, minor surgical clinic, women's health, podiatry, optometry, etc.

The function of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to provide and assist with the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran population. The LPN demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age related needs of the patient served in his/her specified area of practice. This knowledge includes an understanding of the changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population. He/ she must be able to assess and interpret data relating to the patientÂ's current health status, which will facilitate the delivery of care appropriate to the age specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient. The LPN successfully performs activities appropriate to t! heir grade as outlined in the LPN Qualification Standards. These Standa! rds identify the educational, experiential and competency requirements for the LPN at each grade. The incumbent demonstrates confidence in the integration and application of Mental Health care concepts in an Ambulatory Care setting.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time (80 hours per 2 week pay period) from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical nurse or vocational nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. This is required in order to hold a position as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Federal Government.
Must be a graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing that was approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing (Accrediting Commission, NLNAC) at the time you completed the program.
Must be proficient in both spoken and written English. Licensed practical or vocational nurses appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in both spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402 (d), and 7407 (d).
Must be a U.S. Citize! n
Preferred qualifications:
- Mental Health ! experience
- Ambulatory Care experience
- Chronic pain management experience
FOREIGN EDUCATION: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and s! uch education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

Receiving Service Credi! t for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave : Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
