THIS IS AN EXPEDITED HIRING AUTHORITY ANNOUNCEMENT. The Duncan Hunter National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) FY 2009 provides that the Secretary of Defense can designate acquisition positions as shortage positions and recruit and appoint highly qualified persons to these positions. This position is in the Project Office Directorate of the Office of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), Conversion and Repair, United States Navy (USN), Bath, Maine, supporting the Littoral C! ombat Ship (LCS) Project Office located in Marinette, WI.

The incumbent coordinates the Ship Delivery Process TeamÂ's participation during ship trials evolutions for identifying, defining and planning for resolution of design problems for shipboard systems, including hull, mechanical, electronic, electrical, and weapon components.

As a Professional General Engineer, your duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring contractor compliance with contractual requirements governing the design, installation and testing of all systems on assigned ships, ships undergo! ing-construction, Final Contract Trial (FCT), Post Shakedown Availability (PSA) and Post Repair Trial (PRT).
- Resolving design modifications, installation deficiencies, test failures, material failures, and test forms.
- Providing technical guidance on engineering projects.
- Identifying design and construction issues and recommending corrective actions.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of qualifying experience include :
- Applying engineering concepts, principles, and practices associated with the design, test, construction, repair, or overhaul of ship;
- Providing and applying engineering recommendations, engineering management processes and risk management techniques to assist in resolution of ship design and repair problems;
- Developing project plans to coordinate schedules, costs, o! r other resources;
- Ensuring projects comply with quality standards.

EDUCATION:
The Office of Personnel Management has identified the following minimum educational requirements for this position:
Successful completion of a professional enginee! ring degree from an ABET-accredited college or university. -or-
Successful completion of a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science of physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics. -or-
Combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree. Professional Engineering Registration to demonstrate the adequacy of education and experience. -or-
Combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree. Su! ccessfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, which dem! onstrates the adequacy of education and experience. -or-
Successful completion of a degree with at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, and in professional engineering curriculum (as described above). -or-
Successful completion of a degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) and at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
