This position is responsible for providing professional nursing care to inmate patients in both ambulatory and infirmary settings; providing p! atient assessment and treatment; assisting physicians in providing medical services; managing medications, providing emergency care; and maintaining medical records. In addition, the Professional Registered Nurse is expected to participate in educational programs for staff and patients and participate in activities to maintain her/his nurse competency at a minimun profient level.
The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsinâs state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society.

Registration as a Professional Nurse in the State of Wisconsin. Registration as a Professional Nurse in another state or reciprocating state.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a la! wful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.! S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Considerable knowledge of current professional nursing theory and practices; skill in the application of nursing practice in meeting specific needs of offenders, including emergency care, in various areas of the institution; ability to work effectively with incarcerated offenders and other disciplines in a team relationship; and ability to work with a multi-ethnic, multi-culture population.
Starting salary is between $60,053 to $85,765 annually, depending on experience and qualifications plus excellent benefits. We also offer a $1.00 add-on in addition to the base salary. For all positions at Milwaukee, we offer a $3.00 add-on as well as some positions at Dodge. Candidates who are new to ! state service are eligible for a sign on bonus of up to $1000.00.
Position is in pay schedule 11-02. A six-month probationary period is required. We also offer weekend program schedules.
