Reports to (Job Title): Total Service Manager
The basic function of this position is to perform installation activities.
This person may also be required to per! form maintenance, repair, and inspection services on electronic and electromechanical products.
Duties and Responsibilities
Exercise good customer relations' skills, by dealing with customer problems calmly and effectively, and ultimately provide a positive customer experience.
Carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds. The installation technician will work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces above ceilings, etc. Must comply with safety guidelines at all times.
Read and interpret complex blueprints, diagrams, schematics, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, and operational/product manuals in order to understand the requirements to properly service, inspect or install equipment. Review project drawings and obtain all items necessary to perform installation activities according to speci! fications and customer's timetable. Coordinate the installatio! n activities with all trades at the work location to optimize installation time. Attend all required installation site meetings. Complete all required paperwork.
Use a variety of hand and power tools to install all required boxes, wiring panels, digital dialers, devices, and other fire, sound, security, card access, phone or nurse call peripheral equipment as directed and/or specified. May be required to use screw drivers or other hand tools to assemble or disassemble equipment or install parts etc.
Provide sales leads for Preventative Maintenance Agreements, equipment, peripheral devices, and overhauls where appropriate. Complete reports, such as mileage and monthly vehicle reports. Maintain adequate inventory levels within assigned vehicle to ensure timely response to customer needs. Responsible for completing projects on time. Resolve issues to expedite projects and work in a manner that will exceed customer expectations.
Program and install op! erating system according to customer specifications, using company proprietary code. Create firmware and install into system. Validate operating system to ensure compliance with customer specifications and applicable code requirements. Test and resolve any issues. Complete a functional test of all peripherals and control equipment. Instruct customers on functional operation of the equipment/system. Conduct simulations and answer questions. Responsible for communicating and coordinating with SG Central Monitoring Station and Tyco Safety Products Tech Support during the installation and start up of the equipment and services.
May receive service calls from dispatchers, including brief description of equipment/system malfunctions. Contact the designated customer representative and identify equipment/ systems problems. Complete all administrative duties in a timely and professional manner. Will be required to be "on call" and may be required to work overtime.
! Perform other duties as directed.
Working Conditions: Required to lift and or carry equipment and tools, which may weigh in excess of forty (40) pounds.
Working environment may involve climbing ladders and scaffoldings with equipment, upwards to forty (40) feet.
Capable of working in cramped work spaces such as ducts, crawl spaces above ceilings, etc.
Standing, sitting, squatting or climbing may be required.
Work may be performed in hot or cold environments, or environment may be dusty.
Riding or driving for prolong periods of time me by required.
On-Call is required.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
:
Working knowledge of personal computers to include Windows and test equipment, such as oscilloscopes
Multimeters, digital analyzers, battery analyzers, frequency meters, decibel meters, and communicating devices, is required.
Must obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, State and local cod! es.
Must have a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets Company requirements.
Must possess and retain NICET Level II certification within three (3) years of hire date.
Must have excellent communications skills, using tact and diplomacy when dealing with customers.
Must attend and successfully pass Tyco Safety Products sponsored training classes.
Exhibit the ability to listen attentively in order to meet the needs of the customer.
Self Starter with the ability to work alone.
Overnight travel may be required.
Must use the most expeditious means of travel, which may be specified by the Company.
May be required to work overtime, including weekends and holidays and be on call, to respond to emergency situations.
Must be able to work alternative shifts or work nights.
Education and Experience:
Two year Associate degree in a technical field, such as electron! ics or electricity, or equivalent.
Three years related experie! nce servicing Tyco Safety (Simplex or Grinnell) or industry related experience in fire alarms,
sound, security, card access, phone systems or nurse call required.
