Description: Milwaukee County is at present recruited Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (Pool) BHD right now, this position will be placed in Wisconsin. Education and Experience: Licensed ! as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin and certified as a Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or Clinical Nurse Specialist by a national credentialing organization/association, approved by the Board of Nursing, is required. Advanced Practice Nurses must have completed specialized training and an internship in Pharmacology and must have been granted a certificate to independently issue prescription orders under s.441.16 (2), Wisconsin Statutes. Applicants who are currently advanced practice nurse prescribers, who are not Wisconsin residents, will be considered if they are eligible to obtain licensure through the State of Wisconsin. Offer of employment is contingent upon proof of Wisconsin licensure. One year of experience as an advanced practice nurse prescriber is preferred. For advanced practice nurse prescribers located in the Office of the Sheriff: Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or by the! National Certification Corporation in Obstetric/Gynecology or! Women’s Health as a Nurse Practitioner is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the advanced principles and practices of nursing and patient care; skill in patient assessment, nursing diagnosis and planning and evaluation; skill in preparing technical and special reports; ability to use sound judgment in making independent decisions; ability to follow and give instructions; ability to serve as a role model and preceptor for nursing and other health care students; ability to collaborate with physicians and other health professionals regarding patient care; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with patients, physicians, health professionals and others.

Duties: Under general direction and medical staff policies and procedures, to direct and coordinate medical care to assigned patients; to perform and document physical examinations; to obtain and document patient health history; to order, interpret and evaluate diagno! stic tests; to identify and assess patients' clinical problems and health care needs; to formulate a nursing diagnosis and health care plan based on the patient's condition; to submit health care plans and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by the physician; to prescribe and administer medications, treatments and immunizations as necessary according to policies and procedures; to provide health education to patients and their families; to participate in quality assurance and staff development activities; to assist in formulating policies and procedures; to participate in research activities and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.

THE ORIGINAL EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residence within the confines of the State of Wisconsin within six months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.

In accordance with Rule III, Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules, a noncompetitive examination will be held for this position. The noncompetitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.

Effective October 1, 1988, background checks must be conducted on all individuals appointed to positions covered by Wisconsin Act 27 of the laws of 1997 and Wisconsin State statute 50.065. This requirement impacts all positions authorized in Milwaukee County Department of Human Services, Mental Health Division as well as other positions in County Service.

In accordance with the provisions of a Federal Court O! rder #74-C-374 issued by U.S. District Judge Myron L. Gordon, ratio hiring based on race may be used in selecting qualified employees for this classification.
