Responsibilities:
Assists physicians and other health care team members with hospital systems as needed to access patient information, i.e., medical records, documentation systems. Supports communication required to facilitate patient care. Assists the RN with the car! e of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, repositioning, ! ambulating, and feeding. Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs (temperature, pulse, respiration), I & O (intake and output), daily weights, and other patient data as requested. Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens as requested. Documents requested information and promptly communicates observations, concerns and needs of the patient to the RN. Prepares patient rooms for admission/discharge and assists with the patient admission/discharge process. Ensures patient call light is in reach of patient at all times; answers call lights promptly. Keeps careful track and documentation of patient belongings. Completes various errands as directed, including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, reports, etc. Maintains and orders stock for nursing area; cleans equipment and work areas.
Coordinates tests and treatments with and between various departments for the patients on the nursing units. Maintains a working knowledge of the functions and services offer! ed by all diagnostic and treatment departments in order to facilitate the scheduling of tests and treatments. Provides appropriate documentation. Facilitates communications for the nursing unit, utilizing multiple-line telephone, floor paging and in-house systems, and the hospital information system. Screens incoming telephone calls. Monitors department office equipment and troubleshoots minor problems. Arranges repair of major malfunctions and advises direct report of same. Utilizes various hospital computer systems, i.e., smartchart, documentation system. Processes daily patient charges and/or related procedures through the patient information system. Accurately transcribes orders and seeks clarification as needed.
Compiles necessary chart forms for admissions, transfers, discharges and expirations. Obtains appropriate copies of medical records for transfers to nursing homes and other health care facilities. Records patientâs heart rhythm hourly and as changes occur! . Runs telemetry strips for the Registered Nurse based on policy and pr! ocedure and notifies nursing staff promptly when there is an interruption in the telemetry signal. Provides daily inventory to maintain the correct number of transmitters and lead wires. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Qualifications:
Nurse Aide in good standing with the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry
Advanced training beyond High School in Nurse Assisting Medical terminology and keyboarding/word processing s! kills strongly preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities/workloads.
High level of attention to detail essential. Maintains a working knowledge of drugs and their categories according to site/department specific policy.
Scheduled Hours:
6AM - 6PM Shifts
There is a weekend commitment as well as a holiday commitment.
