Position Summary:
The Therapy Services Aide assists all physical and occupational therapists in providing patient care and takes responsibility for equipment, supply and maintenance. This position requires direct supervision by professional staff. Must be flexible to work on an as needed basis. May be required to travel to sites if needed.
Locations include: East Clinic, Sun Prairie, West Clinic, Dean Therapy Center, Dean Clinic and Riverview Clinic in Janesville.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School! diploma or equivalent, additional training or experience as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or having direct patient care experience
Good communication skills
Ability to travel to other sites.
Demonstrates flexibility to meet department needs on short notice.
Adapts easily to the workflow of the different departments
Available to work a flexible schedule on short notice.
Ability to work at least one shift in a 90 day period or as designated per department
Ability to travel to other sites as needed.

Essential Physical Functions:

Directly working with patient handling / ambulation tasks.
Ability to work with and to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when working with bloodborne pathogens or other chemicals.
Responsibilities:
All tasks are performed under direct supervision of an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist.
Provides direct care to patients:
Transports and rooms patients.
Transfers, positions and drapes patients appropriately in preparation for treatment.
Performs modality treatment as requested per treatment plan per competencies and as allowed by regulation.
Recognizes and acts when patient care requires intervention by a therapist.
Identifies any change in pa! tient status that requires attention by a therapist who is contacted im! mediately.
Answers questions within their scope of knowledge and refers other questions to a therapist or manager.
Anticipates patient needs for support, fluids, comfort and safety.
Contributes to the effective organization and efficient processes of the department in any of the following ways:
Effectively carries out the following ways:
Linen management including vendor communication regarding stock and shortages.
Program organization for spine stabilization, lymphedema, back care seminar, etc⦠(to include â¦)
Assist therapists in delivery of supplies to patients.
Managing inventory and ordering of regular supplies as well as specialty, items including research of product, communication with purchasing agents and vendors.
Flexibility and willingness to travel to and cover other therapy sites.
Assistance in work hardening with client programs.
Effectively and proficiently! carries out the following clerical tasks
Able to carry out reception tasks up to, but not including registration
Outcomes management
Charge ticket reconciliation
Resolving the workqeue
Insurance authorization including associated paperwork, phone calls and faxing
Word processing and spreadsheet use
Maintains clean and sanitary conditions for patient care areas and equipment as well as monitor equipment function
Carries out and records cleaning tasks regularly according to the cleaning checklist.
Keeps department clean and neat on an ongoing, daily basis.
Identifies improper equipment function and communicates this to side manager and biomedical engineer.
Communicates and documents pertinent information to providers and others:
Documents faxes, sending of copied patient notes and phone calls (i.e. patient cancels) in the rehab folders.
Communicates pertinent ! patient info to therapist one on one, voice mail, or note.
Acc! epts and responds positively to constructive critical feedback.
Takes action to improve on specific issues.
Assists with identifying process improvement.
Demonstrates competency in equipment function and appropriate patient care tasks
Successfully completes aide competency checklist on a yearly basis appropriate to individual sites and posts at all therapy sites.
Does not act outside of recognized department competencies
Understanding of equipment function and appropriate patient response to treatment.
Conforms to Medical Center and department policies for purposes of personal and patient safety.
Infection Control policies with regard to blood and body fluids
Rehabilitation Agency Requirements
After establishing proficiency with base competencies will be allowed and encouraged to take on additional individual skills which may include the following:
Health dynamics
Pre! -placement Screenings
Trainer â" For DMC or dept.
Class demonstrator (i.e. Spine Stabilization)
Community education talks as representative of Dean Therapy (i.e. Stress talk, etcâ¦)
