Advanced Practice Nurse

Provides primary or specialty health care services within defined scope of practice in collaboration with a licensed! physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.

Physician Assistant

Provides specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.

Department Position Purpose

Renders and ensures quality health care to patients served by Vascular Interventional Radiology (VIR); including pre-procedural evaluation and consultation, pre- and post-procedural care and management, intraprocedural assistance, independent procedural performance, patient education, and paraprofessional and professional medical education.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.

2.

Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.

3.

Develops pharmaceut! ical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.

4.
Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.

5.

Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.

6.

Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.

7.

Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.

8.

Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.

9.

Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Department Specific Responsibilities

Under appropriate physician supervision and under physician discretion, performs and monitors therapeutic procedures as indicated by patient’s diagnosis and condition within scope and level of expertise.

Exercises prescriptive authority as outlined in Wisconsin State Statue.

Independently writes orders and progress no! tes.

Responsible for procedural conscious sedation.

Identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs.

Evaluates patients pre- and post-operatively.

Evaluates patients in consultation for potential procedures.

Assists with admission and discharge planning and management of inpatient service in collaboration with patient, family, nurses, physicians, and other allied health professionals.

Obtains consents and otherwise assists with research and clinical trials as needed.

Available by pager, as necessary, for continuity of care.

Participates in professional education activities and maintains professional affiliations.

Prepares for, participates in, and attends required conferences, meetings, and committees as requested.

Works on projects as requested by supervisor, including clinical research activities.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education Req! uirements

Advanced Practice Nurse

Master’s Degree f! rom an accredited institution and approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association. National Certification and State Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies. Current experience in an acute or ICU setting a plus.

Experience

0 to 2 years experience; will consider a candidate who has a strong working knowledge of anatomy, physiology and disease processes and/or with an understanding of health care delivered in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
